Boston's Emerging Green Builders

An organization dedicated to sharing green building ideas with others.

Tomorrow April 22nd is Earth Day. We’ve all heard the saying “Every Day Is Earth Day” and in a perfect world this is true. The reality is much different, on a day to day basis focus is lost and the immediacy fades. How can we truly instill the ideals of Earth Day 365 days a year? A simple answer; educate the children, include them in the process and encourage them to understand the methodology behind the initiatives.

Think about it for a minute, what are you best at? More than likely its activities, sports, etc. that you learned as a child. As we engage in Earth Day activities consider including the children, explain WHY recycling is important, tell them WHY leaving lights on is wasteful, teach them about solar and wind energy. We need to engrain, in the younger generations, the thought processes needed to effect energy and environmental change. After all it is their future we’re looking out for, educating and including them is a great way to close the loop.

Both of my children will be hands on tomorrow and I hope yours will be as well. Here are three fun websites you can use to share the ideals of Earth Day with your children.
